US HHS & DEA:
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is issuing a third extension of telemedicine flexibilities for the prescribing of controlled medications, through December 31, 2025. The extension is effective January 1, 2025.

The NLC has a new website: www.nursecompact.com. It contains information for nurses, employers, and nursing students, and graduates.
Louisiana:
Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) CME Update:
Effective January 1, 2025, the board will require prescribers of controlled dangerous substances (CDS) to take a specific course to meet the one-time requirement for 3 hours of continuing medical education (CME) on topics specified by La. R.S. 40:978.3 (Act 2017-76) and §4005 of our rules. This requirement is required for the prescribing of all CDSs.
These approved CME topics are: best practices for the prescribing of CDS, drug diversion training, appropriate treatment for addiction, and the treatment of chronic pain. The board has partnered with Medical Interactive to standardize the subject material to ensure that all prescribers receive the same information.

Maryland:
Effective January 1, 2025, the Board will be implementing a registration for Limited X-Ray Machine Operators (LXMOs). Individuals who meet the qualifications and register with the Board will be authorized to perform certain X-ray examinations of the chest, spine, lower extremities, and upper extremities under the supervision of an on-site Maryland licensed physician or radiologic technologist.

North Carolina:
Effective October 14, 2024, the North Carolina Medical Board temporarily waives supervision requirements for Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs), and physicians wishing to provide medical care in areas impacted by Hurricane Helene. The healthcare providers must have a full and unrestricted license. Limited Emergency Licenses are available for Physicians and PAs who have been inactive for five years or less and previously held a North Carolina license. The waiver remains in effect for specific counties until March 1, 2025.
