Founded in 1887, the AICPA was created from the guiding principles of the CPA profession. The organization represents the tenets of rules and standards. Why they are made, how they are made, and how they are measured and enforced. The organization serves in an advocacy role before professional organizations, public interest groups, and legislative bodies. The AICPA established the profession of accounting and distinguished it as such by prescribed professional standards, a code of ethics, education, licensure, and a commitment to serving the best interests of its community.
