Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC):
Pennsylvania has reached a partial implementation of the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact. Starting August 26, 2024, out-of-state physicians who have received a license from a compact state and a corresponding “letter of qualification” can apply to the IMLC to designate Pennsylvania as a state where the physician wants to practice and apply for expedited licensure from the relevant state licensing board. Pennsylvania physicians are not able to obtain a Compact license until full implementation has been completed. PA IMLC Implementation Update
Alabama:
The Alabama Board of Pharmacy has transitioned to a new database for license renewals beginning October 1, 2024. This change will require all individuals to create a new account in the “Gateway”; however, pharmacies and facilities will not need to create a new account. Instead, each pharmacy will be linked to the supervising pharmacist, and each facility will be linked to the designated representative (DR). Additional Gateway Profile information can be located on the Alabama Board of Pharmacy website under each license type. AL BOP Website
Colorado:
The Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) has completed the public rulemaking process to implement the creation of licenses for Natural Medicine as of September 15, 2024. These rules and regulations govern the process for the safe provision of regulated natural medicine services. DORA anticipates accepting Natural Medicine license applications no later than December 31, 2024. CO Natural Medicine Division
Pennsylvania:
Legislation has been introduced to provide licensing for all medical imaging specialists, radiation therapists, and radiologist assistants. The proposed licensing program would fall under the purview of the State Board of Medicine. Specialties would include: radiography (x-ray operation), nuclear medicine, diagnostic sonography (ultrasound), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), and radiation therapy. The bill establishes the scope of practice for each modality, sets requirements for the licensure and renewal of licenses, determines proper training, and develops standards to improve medical imaging and radiation therapy procedures. PA SB 1281
Legislation has been introduced to grant boards that are subject to an interstate licensure compact the power to promulgate temporary rules for compact implementation. Licensing boards would still be required to use the full regulatory process to establish permanent guidelines. Temporary regulations promulgated under this legislation would expire after three years. PA HB 2381
Legislation has been proposed to grant waivers for on-site requirements for psychiatrists practicing telehealth medicine and introduce additional flexibility to meet those requirements and comply with federal rules and Medicaid requirements. PA HB 2560
