Compliance Updates: June 2024

Overlook:

  • Federal Legislation
  • DEA
  • Licensure Compacts
  • Other Legislation
  • Board Updates

Alabama:

Veterinarians do not have NPI Numbers:

The Board of Pharmacy has been asked to remind all pharmacists that veterinarians do not have NPI numbers. The Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners has found that veterinary prescriptions were delayed in being filled due to the pharmacist requesting NPI numbers. When the NPI number could not be given, as it does not exist for veterinarians, the pharmacist requests the veterinarian’s DEA number, which is unnecessary for non-controlled substances. The Board staff will be looking into this further and will provide an update at the next meeting.

Colorado:

Colorado has officially adopted the Physician Assistant (PA) Licensure Compact model legislation, S.B. 24-018, making it the 10th PA Compact state.

Idaho:

The Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses (DOPL) has partnered with FAST Enterprises LLC to develop a comprehensive system for licensing, registration, certification and permitting. Beginning on July 1, 2024, the new system will be used for all healthcare related professions, including the Boards of Nursing, Pharmacy, and Medicine. The Boards of Nursing and Pharmacy will turn off their existing licensing portals on June 24th and 25th.
