US Department of Health and Human Services:
The Secretary of the US DHHS has issued a new amendment under the Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Act (PREP Act) effective January 1, 2025. Under the PREP Act 12th amendment, licensed pharmacists, pharmacy interns, and qualified pharmacy technicians are authorized to continue administering COVID-19 vaccines and vaccine-related services through December 31, 2029.
As qualified persons, these licensed pharmacists, pharmacy interns, and qualified pharmacy technicians will be afforded liability protections in accordance with the PREP Act and the terms of this amended Declaration. To the extent that any State law would otherwise prohibit these healthcare professionals who are a “qualified person” from prescribing, dispensing, or administering Covered Countermeasures that are COVID-19 vaccines, seasonal influenza vaccines or COVID-19 tests, such law is preempted.
Massachusetts:
Massachusetts has enacted legislation that includes the adoption of the Nursing Licensure Compact as of 12/20/2024. The implementation dates have not yet been released and compact nursing licenses are not yet available for providers.
Ohio:
The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Bureau of Vital Statistics is replacing its separate electronic vital records systems used to record births and deaths in Ohio (IPHIS/EDRS) with a single Ohio Vital Records System (OVRS) scheduled to go live on January 1, 2025. The new system will be used by funeral homes, coroners/medical examiners, birth facilities, physicians who complete death certificates, and local health departments. OVRS users should enroll in the new system before go-live to ensure a smooth changeover.
